وعثر أيضا عليه في أمريكا الجنوبية في مناطق مثل جنوب شيلي، وجزر فوكلاند، وجنوب جزر أوركني وجورجيا الجنوبية وجزر ساندويتش الجنوبية.و أستراليا ونيوزيلندا والبرازيل وجنوب افريقيا.و في شبه جزر القطب الجنوبي والقطب الشمالي، فهي تحتل الجزر التالية - جنوب جزر شتلاند، جزيرة بوفيت، الأمير إدوارد وجزر ماريون، وجزر كروزيه، وجزر كيرغولن، وجزر ماكدونالد.
بسبب التلوث البحري انخفضت انخفاضا كبيرا في بعض المناطق.
البطريق معكرونة هي واحدة من ستة أنواع من طيور البطريق المتوج، التي تنتمي إلى جنس Eudyptes. و كثيرا ما يجري خلط هذه الطيور مع طيور البطريق الملكي، وبعض الناس ينظر لها بانها نفس النوع. وتتميز البطاريق معكرونة بواسطة لون الوجه الذي هو أسود في حين طيور البطريق الملكي له وجه أبيض اللون.

طيور البطريق معكرونة البالغة منها (ذكورا وإناثا) طولها حوالي 70 سم و له أعمدة صفراء على رأسه والتي تتواجد في وسط الرأس ويمتد إلى مؤخر العنق هي السمة المميزة للبطريق، الذي يميزها عن غيرها من طيور البطريق. الرأس والذقن أسود و الريش من أعلى اسود والريش من أسفل أبيض اللون. و المنقار برتقالي أو بني اللون، ومناقير الذكور أكبر قليلا من الإناث. و طيور البطريق معكرونة تعيش لعمر 15 عاما.
